FAQ’s

Food Allergies

As we will be using a wide variety of foods, food products and ingredients in all of our cooking classes and birthday parties we cannot guarantee a safe environment for children with severe and/or potentially life-threatening allergies.

We are a NUT SAFE facility.  We strive for 100% NUT SAFE but we can not guarantee that the products we use have not been into contact with nuts or nut products outside of our facility.  Any children with food allergies need to have their Epipen with them otherwise, they’ll not be permitted to participate in the cooking class or birthday party.

If your child has a mild food allergy or intolerance please ensure that you fill out all the pertinent details on our ‘Registration Form’ and ‘Medical Authorization Form’ and speak to our staff so that we may try our best to accommodate that student.

A ‘Medical Authorization Form’ and ‘Consent to Participate and Release of Liability’ and ‘Registration Form’ will be required to be filled out and signed by all parents so that students may register for cooking classes and that we may proceed with birthday party planning.

The safety of everyone in the kitchen is paramount. At the start of each session we review the kitchen’s safety rules and discuss the reasons we need to help each other to follow them.

Safety

What should I wear?
In addition to general kitchen safety rules, it is important that parents
• make sure long hair is tied back
• remind the children to wear closed toed shoes like sneakers.
Tying hair back keeps it out of the food and away from the flames on the stove.
Sneakers protect your child’s feet from sharp and heavy objects and from hot spills. Flip flops, sandals or wet boots are not appropriate footwear for the kitchen and the child will not be able to participate in the kitchen cooking fun.

How do I register for a class?
To find a class, browse the “Our Programs” menu on the top tabs. Each class features a calendar/schedule link which will list all classes offered, month by month. Click the title of the class you want to attend. The next screen will give you greater detail about the class. Enter the number of seats you wish to reserve in the “Seats available” box. Click the “Register” button. Payment in full is required at the time of registration.

How long are classes?
For toddlers classes are 45 minutes to 1 hour in length. For students 6+ the classes are 1-1.5 hours in length. For demonstrations/workshops will vary depending on what is being offered.

What is the format of your classes?
We offer two different formats listed below. Each student will be given a tasting size portion of all the dishes prepared during the class. We will also provide you with recipes for all the menu items.

1) Hands On
These are full participation classes. Students take part in practicing techniques and preparing the menu items. Hands-on classes are limited to 15 people.

Kinder Chefs: Classes are limited to children between the ages of 3 to 5. These classes are 45 minutes to 1 hour in length.
Petits Chefs: Classes are limited to children between the ages of 6 to 10. These classes are 1-1.25 hours in length.
Jr. Chefs: Classes are limited to children between the ages of 11 to 15. These classes are 1.5 hours in length.

2) Demonstration/Workshops
Designed as an observation class, participants watch while chefs explain and show recipe preparation and cooking techniques. Class is limited to 20 people.

Will there be pictures and video taken of my children during the cooking classes?
There may be at times pictures or video being captured for promotional materials and social media feeds. This may include pictures of the students in the classroom and at work with the chef in various tasks as well as video capture of a cooking class in progress. A waiver of consent and permission to use these types of media, advertising and print material will be required to be signed of by all participating students.

Should I register for a class with a waitlist?
If a class is in waitlist status, you can add your name to the waiting list. You do not need to submit any payment information until a spot becomes available. If an opening becomes available, you will be contacted by phone or email. Please complete both day and evening phone numbers. Your credit card information will be required at the time you accept a spot in the class. Depending on kitchen availability and interest, we may add additional classes to satisfy demand.

What is your cancellation policy for classes?
No refund or exchanges will be given on any programs or services that are cancelled after 15 days prior to start date of program and/or service.

Petits Chefs Academy reserves the right to cancel any class that fails to attract sufficient enrolment, chef illness or inclement weather. We will contact you by email or telephone and issue a make up class, full refund or you may request to be transferred to another class of your choice (depending on availability).

If you miss a class due to weather-related concerns, we will not issue a credit or refund or make up class.

We’ll allow for only 1 make up class for illness or other in our 9 week program, and only if we’re notified by phone or email of the absence prior to the absence.

Payments
Full payment is required at the time of registration, either by credit card, debit or cash.
